GETTING TO KNOW FASHION MODEL AMANDA SAEZ

  • How did you get started in the modeling industry?

Amanda: Modeling was something I’ve always wanted to do since I was very young, but my parents kept it to a minimal for me because they wanted me to grow up having a normal life and make the decision to pursue it when I got older. They wanted me to be more focused on my studies and that’s exactly what I did. However, when I moved to Miami, modeling was something that I did not intentionally pursue.

It’s something that just came to me. I honestly had zero idea what I was in for when moving down here. I had no plan, no direction, I just moved here and let my life flow and guide me. I was an Assistant Professor before I moved, I had a retail job on the side, and I was looking for another job in my field of study. Unaware that this was about to happen, I moved about a week and a half before going into the COVID-19 shutdown and had nothing to do, no work, no family around, nothing.

With all of that free time, I decided to create my swimsuit line, VANNA SWIMWEAR. Within 6 months of me launching it, Miami Swim Fashion Week reached out to me asking me to be apart of the event which took place a year after I launched my swimsuit line. When I showed up to the event, many people did not think I was a designer. They thought I was there to model. I ended up doing a little bit of modeling that weekend and I had a blast!

I was surrounded by top-of-the-line brands, top agency models, and the most well-known people around the world. I felt like a fish out of water, but the people made me feel like I was no different from them and that this was where I belonged. That’s when I knew this was what I was meant to pursue. It was from then on that I decided to dedicate myself to growing my social media platforms and growing myself, not just my swimsuit line, but me, as a brand. And to pursue what I was dreaming of at a young age.

  • What are some of your favorite types of projects to work on?

Amanda: I love doing swimsuit modeling. I am very comfortable with my body and love how artsy it can be. Swimsuit modeling is something that you can shoot super bare and natural or all glam.

  • What is your favorite brand? What do you like most about them?

Amanda: This one is a bit hard for me. I always have a hard time choosing a favorite for anything! I love Oh Polly, Alo, and of course, my own brand :)

Oh Polly is great for me because I am extremely petite and it’s hard to find clothes that fit me. Oh Polly tends to run very small so I can never go wrong when buying something from them. Alo just has the cutest workout clothes! Overall, the brand is so fire.

My own brand, VANNA SWIMWEAR, I am very proud of her for making it to Miami Swim Week within a year of launch and I am excited to do a new drop :)

  • What advice do you have for people looking to get more out of social media?

Amanda: Network, collaborate, and more networking. Also, it takes 100% of your dedication. I think a lot of people think that influencers and models don’t do anything and it’s not true at all. It’s not as easy as just taking a photo and posting it. It takes up the majority of your time - especially when just starting out. It’s like running a business. Except YOU are the business. YOU are the brand. If you treat it as such, you will grow the same way as a regular business would.

  • What’s the best way for people to find you on social media?

Amanda: Instagram is my favorite and go-to social media platform @amandasaezofficial
